Chief Financial Officer
Susan Johnson is the Chief Financial Officer of First Trust Portfolios Canada, joining in September 2017 with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, focusing on the wealth management sector. Prior to joining the company, Ms. Johnson held various executive positions. Most recently, she was Chief Financial Officer of Front Street Capital group of companies. Prior to that she was Vice-President Finance at Mackenzie Financial Corp. Previous to those positions, she was Vice-President Finance at CIBC and Chief Financial Officer for a number of CIBC asset management subsidiaries. Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from Queen’s University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Head of Distribution, Canada
Karl Cheong is Head of Distribution, Canada. Karl is an innovative and leading industry veteran who has been at the forefront of some of the industry's recent change. He was previously Vice President, and Head of Product, for Claymore Investments Inc. (acquired by Blackrock Asset Management Canada Limited), where the products he created were well received by the Street. Karl provides insightful market commentary on a variety of topics including current events and industry trends as a regular guest on BNN, and has also appeared on Bloomberg and Bloomberg Canada. Additionally, he has been featured in a variety of publications such as The Financial Post, Reuters, Morningstar, ETF Investing and The Investment Executive.
Mr. Cheong is bilingual, holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from McGill University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder (CFA®). Karl is also a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Toronto.
Chief Compliance Officer
Theodore Ikonomou is the Chief Compliance Officer of First Trust Portfolios Canada. Mr. Ikonomou has over 18 years of legal, compliance and risk management experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Ikonomou held various positions at financial institutions and securities dealers. Mr. Ikonomou is admitted to practice law in Ontario and New York State. He holds a Master of Laws degree (Banking and Financial Services Law), and he holds several professional designations including Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI).
Vice President, Fund Accounting
Lea Paulino-Munar is Vice President, Fund Accounting of FT Portfolios Canada Co. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of Accounting: banking and financial services industries combined. Prior to joining the company, December 2006, Lea was with CIBC Mellon under their Client Service Delivery, Fund Accounting and under their Internal Audit Department. Prior to migrating to Canada, she was with Internal Audit Groups in Manila, Philippines: at Dao Heng Bank (now under Banco de Oro Universal Bank) and at Far East Bank and Trust Company (now under Bank of the Philippine Islands). Lea holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce, Major in Accounting from University of Santo Tomas, Philippines and is a Certified Public Accountant (Philippines).
